Russian Government to Consider Economic Development Issues in Light of War in Iraq

At a Thursday session the Russian government discussed the prospects for the country's economic development up to 2006.

When opening the session, Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov said that at present "not all forecasts of the economic development are correct as the situation with energy prices is not clear which is primarily connected with the situation in Iraq." According to him, today's session would discuss the economic development in the next three years to come.

"There are still some tasks to be completed, and issues related to tax reform, the budgetary expenditures, etc. have not been specified yet," he said. At the same time, the prime minister added, the Russian government hopes to approve in April the decision on the forecast of the country's social and economic development which will later become the basis of the draft federal budget the Russian government usually approves in autumn.
