Baltic Factory To Build Two Destroyers For China

The Baltic Factory has won a tender for the construction of two 956 EM destroyers for the Chinese Navy, the press service of the Russian company reported. The tender commission, in particular, included the general director of the Rosoboronexport arms exporting agency, the head of the Russian shipbuilding agency, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Vladimir Kuroyedov and others. The tender was held after Rosoboronexport signed an agreement with the Chinese Defense Ministry for the construction of two destroyers. The agreement, which was signed on January 3, 2002, stipulates that the destroyers will be supplied with missiles, anti-submarine arms systems and aircraft. The cost of the contract has not been reported. However, according to estimates of experts, it is more than $1 billion.
