On Thursday, deputy chairman of the Russian committee on military technological cooperation Yuri Khozyainov stated that Russia's share in the global weapons export market amounted to about 12 percent.
He took part in a "round table" meeting, "Military Technological Cooperation: Opportunities, Problems and Prospects," which was held within the framework of the 6th St.Petersburg's economic forum.
According to Khozyainov, Russia "is among the five leading exporters of arms and military equipment." Russia's major military partners are China, India, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Kuwait and others. According to the forecasts for 2002 made by the Committee, hard currency earnings from India might exceed those from China.
Russia exports modern aviation equipment and armaments, anti-aircraft and artillery systems, armoured vehicles, ammunition and small arms. According to the Committee's information, contemporary high-technology products are very much in demand abroad, mostly in the area of aircraft and missiles manufacturing.
