The Frontier Services of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are developing interaction mechanisms. Heads of the border troops of the SCO member states - Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan - are discussing the main trends, forms and perspectives of cooperation in Kazakhstan's former capital Alma-Ata. The goal of the meeting is to fulfil the agreements reached during the SCO summit held in June 2001 in Shanghai. After a one-day session a protocol will be signed. At the opening of the session the message of greeting of Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbaev was read out. Only mutual efforts can successfully protect the member states from the threats of terrorism and extremism, from the expanding international organized crime and drug trafficking, says the address. Nazarbaev was positive that the meeting in Alma-Ata "will become a new contribution to the strengthening of the border cooperation and will allow to find efficient measures for the successful protection of our borders".
