EBRD to allocate credit to Siberian city

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development decided to allocate 1.35bn rubles (EUR45m) for the Siberian city of Surgut (population 275,000) to develop the city's water supply and heating systems. This decision was made within the framework of the bank's program on rendering financial assistance to Russian regional authorities in reconstructing regional infrastructure, the press service of the EBRD reported. The projects on reconstructing Surgut's water supply and heating systems amount to EUR87.5m. So the bank will provide half of the necessary sum.

"This is the first such step of the EBRD in Siberia", an official of the bank admitted. Moreover, this has been the first time the bank gives a ruble credit to a Russian municipal agency.

Some 474m rubles (EUR15.8m) will be spent on the project that envisages the improvement of quality of drinking water in Surgut. About 711m rubles (EUR23.7m) are to be allocated on projects aimed at decreasing local thermal power station air emissions and 165m rubles (EUR5.5m) on technical design and management of the projects.
