Alfa Bank official, "Central Bank impedes dollar growth"

Today's trading on the currency market opened a little over USD/RUR31.60.However, then the Central Bank of Russia started currency interventions atthe 31.60-ruble level, and the dollar exchange rate went down a little. Atpresent, tomorrow deals are fluctuating somewhere between 31.59-31.60rubles. Nevertheless, banks have enough rubles now, and interbank creditrates are rather low, head of the department for currency and financialoperations of Alfa Bank Igor Vasilyev reported in an interview withRosBusinessConsulting. In his opinion, operators may still try to speculatefor a rise, but if the Central Bank starts selling dollars at this levelagain, the dollar exchange rate is not likely to go beyond the 31.60-rublelevel. In addition to that, ruble resources may increase in value by theend of this week, he remarked. .
