Record Yield Of Grain Registered In Russia This Year

On Tuesday, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov held a conference with vice-premiers and key ministers to discuss the results of the harvesting campaign in the country. The government information department told journalists that 83 million tonnes of grain were thrashed in Russia this year against 65 million tonnes last year. A record-high yield of grain - 18.7 centners per hectare - has been reached in 2001. The conference noted that the sowing of winter crops has also been completed in the country. This year areas under winter crops are 15 percent (2.2 million hectares) larger compared with the previous year.
