The Russian army will be armed with a new generation of anti-aircraft missile systems. Almaz-Antey has already started developing new medium-range air defense systems that are said to replace Buk and S350 Vityaz missile complexes, director general of the company Yan Novikov said.
In 2016, the Russian army received the latest modification of the Buk-M3 system designed to combat any aeroballistic targets, including maneuvering and unobtrusive targets under intense fire and electronic countermeasures. According to experts, the complex has no equal in its class.
The Buk system is capable of following up to 36 targets at a distance up to 70 kilometers at all altitudes. The new 9R31M missile has a higher speed and better maneuverability characteristics compared to its predecessor. The probability to strike an aircraft with one missile makes up 0.9 (0.8 with a crisp missile).
