VimpelCom launches new network in Tatar Republic

The VimpelCom cellular network has been launched in Kazan (the TatarRepublic), the company reported. The regional VimpelCom network was builtusing Ericsson equipment and includes over 30 base stations. At the initialstage, the network will also cover the highway to Moscow until the borderwith the Chuvash Republic and the Republic of Mariy-El.The established switch exchange has an initial capacity of 50,000 lines andcan be extended to 300,000 lines. VimpelCom is going to expand its networkto the cities of Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk and Nizhnekamsk, and tocover all highways of the republic. At the beginning of 2003, the companywill provide uninterrupted coverage of the highway to Moscow, including theChuvash Republic, the Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir regions..
