The Economic Development and Trade Ministry thinks the sales tax should be cancelled in 2004, Deputy Economy Minister Arkady Dvorkovich stated at a meeting with journalists today. The Ministry does not support the initiative of the Finance Ministry to postpone the cancellation of this tax to a later date. According to Dvorkovich, the Russian budget has necessary resources to compensate for the cancellation. In particular, additional budget revenues can be raised from auctions on the use of subsurface resources.
