Production of Mineral Fertilizers by Nevinnomyssky Nitrogen Fell by 2.5% in 2002

The volume of mineral fertilizers produced by Nevinnomyssky Nitrogen (Stavropol Region) fell by 2.5% in 2002 to 521 thousand tonnes. According to the Evrokhim mineral and chemical company, which owns Nevinnomyssky Nitrogen, the volume of carbamide-ammonia mix produced also fell by 33.4% to 471 thousand tonnes.

The fall in mineral fertilizer output at Evrokhim can be explained by the difficult situation concerning sales of Russian agro-chemical products on foreign markets. 'The situation has deteriorated sharply due to the record number of new barriers in the form of various foreign trade restrictions,' said the company's press office. 'For example, Evrokhim and other Russian producers have had to completely cease deliveries of carbamide-ammonia mix to the US due to the anti-dumping investigations which have been initiated there.'

Evrokhim runs companies producing mineral fertilizers, phosphate feeds, and other organic and inorganic chemical products. The holding's companies together produce around 1,600,000 tonnes of nitrate fertilizers each year, over 1,500,000 tonnes of phosphate fertilizers, and over 300,000 tonnes of phosphate feeds. According to the group's figures, Evrokhim is responsible for about 2% of the world market for mineral fertilizers. The largest shareholder in Evrokhim is the Moscow group MDM.
