British Foreign Secretary On Economic Growth In Russia

The Russian economic growth rate has surpassed "respective indicators in European countries," British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw told Russian politicians on Wednesday in remarks dubbed into Russian. We are happy that the stabilization and restructuring of Russia's economy has begun to bear fruit, he said. He recalled that Britain and Russia have long worked together to further economic integration, and the UK is a decisive proponent of Russia's membership in the World Trade Organization. He said the huge investment that has flowed into the country from British businesses is an indication of their confidence in the Russian economy's stability. He added that the UK "is the fourth largest foreign investor in Russia, and British firms are determined to build up mutually beneficial ties with Russian companies."
