The 3rd Congress of the Union of Yedinstvo and Otechestvo /Unity and Fatherland/ all-Russia public organisation has just opened in Moscow's State Kremlin Palace. Opening the congress, Moscow Mayor and Otechestvo leader Yuri Luzhkov said it had gathered 3,250 delegates plus guests from the presidential administration, the Russian government, deputies of the Russian parliament, leaders of several regions, political parties and public movements, and 267 journalists. The task facing the delegates is to transform the Union of Yedinstvo and Otechestvo into a single political party, adopt its Statute and program, and elect directing bodies.
