Post-soviet Countries' Rabbis Hold Congress In Promised Land

Rabbis of CIS countries and the post-Soviet Baltics opened congress at hotel Crown Plaza on the Dead Sea coast. All post-Soviet countries have sent their Chief Rabbis to attend the event, as well as the rabbis of major cities, and Jewish community activists, reports Alexander Boroda, Vice-President of Russia's Jewish Community Federation. The 200 delegates will analyse Jewish community life in the post-Soviet area at seminars, lectures, public debates and roundtables. Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia, leads the Russian delegation.

On December 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, its thirty articles enshrining basic and fundamental rights guaranteeing dignity of the human person and equality for all, regardless of race, color, creed or gender. A pipe dream?
