Number of unemployed in Russia has decreased

Russia's president Vladimir Putin met Russia's Minister of Labour Alexander Pochinok. During the first four months of this year the number of unemployed in Russia has decreased by 500,000 people, said the minister at a press conference following the meeting. He also said that about 700,000 new jobs were created at the same period.

Summer employment of children at the age of 14-18 was among the priorities at the meeting. 570 million rubles have been already allocated to this matter (with $1 USA equaling 31.35 rubles), Pochinok stated.

He also pointed that the preparation for the ratification of the 182nd Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, proposed by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was coming to its end. Thus Russia is finishing its process of joining different ILO conventions in this sphere, he said.

The situation around the new labour code was also on the agenda. It is believed to be "very positive", the minister stated. Thus, the number of collective agreements has increased by 70% while the number of labour conflicts has decreased twenty-five-fold.
