President Putin appointed new head of Human Rights Commission

President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on appointing public figure Ella Pamfilova chairwoman of the Human Rights Commission under the president of the Russian Federation, the press service of the head of the Russian state said. As Emma Pamfilova told journalists after the end of her Kremlin meeting with Vladimir Putin, she deems helping people "uphold their rights in a civilised way and protecting them from any arbitrariness on the part of officials and other persons" to be her task on the post of the chairwoman of the Human Rights Commission under the president.

According to her, "public organisations, specifically in regions, which are engaged in defending human rights and have vast experience in this field' will be drawn into this work.

Pamfilova noted that it is necessary to reveal the "painful points" in this sphere, the problems which people encounter every day. As she said, the experience accumulated by regional organisations will be used in this work.
