Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Kasyanov demanded from the government "important and responsible decisions concerning mechanisms for carrying out the economic policy for a medium term perspective." While opening a session of the Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday, Mikhail Kasyanov called upon the government "to determine what sources of growth will dominate in the upcoming period." "At the present time, when the country has entered another stage of development it is necessary to systematically control during the whole year such indices as the productivity of labour, power consumption of the industries and the development of competition," said the Prime Minister. This is what defines the development of economic freedoms.
Mikhail Kasyanov said that the government for the first time now uses the mechanism for the work in accordance with the President's message in which he spoke about the necessity of going over to a medium term planning.
At its Thursday session the government considered the forecast for the social and economic development of the country for 2002 and for a medium term prospect, as well as the draft federal Budget-2003 and the budgetary forecast for the period of up to 2005.
