Foreign Minister Ivanov: Russia And Namibia See Eye To Eye On Key International Issues

Russia and Namibia see eye to eye on key international issues, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said at a press conference before leaving Namibia for home. According to the minister, Russia and Namibia are both aware of the need to strengthen the central role of the United Nations in maintaining peace and stability on the planet, combating international terrorism, and meeting other global challenges. Both countries seek to promote a fair and democratic system of international relations. Summing up his talks with top Namibian officials to the press, Ivanov said that particular attention had been paid to the problem of settling and preventing regional conflicts on the African continent. Moscow and Windhoek are unanimous in that such conflicts are a hurdle to the steady development of African countries, to their socio-economic revival and integration into the world market. The sides reiterated their preference of diplomacy to military force as the way to settle critical situations. They also discussed specific areas of bilateral cooperation, including fishery, health care, military technologies, and personnel training.
