Georgia's Parliamentarians Invite Georgian, Russian Presidents To Have Personal Meeting

On Tuesday Georgian parliamentarians adopted an appeal to presidents Eduard Shevardnadze of Georgia and Vladimir Putin of Russia for getting together for a personal meeting very soon. Such a meeting should start getting the Georgian-Russian relations "out of the present impasse" and improving them, says Georgian deputies. "There is no alternative for goodneighborly relations between Georgia and Russia", reads the appeal. It was signed by representatives of most factions in the Georgian parliament. On the same day the appeal was handed over to the Russian ambassador to Georgia, Vladimir Gudev. Relations between these two countries have worsened in the last few days because of the armed conflict in Abkhazia, which was penetrated by a group of Chechen and Georgian militants. Abkhazia is a self-proclaimed republic within Georgia.
