Presidential election campaign to start this December

The campaign for the Russian presidential elections will start on December 10, 2003, Chairman of the Russian Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov reported at a meeting of election commissions and representatives of authorities of the South Federal District in Rostov-on-Don. The presidential elections are to take place on March 14, 2004.

The participants of the meeting are discussing interaction of election commissions with law-enforcement authorities, and introduction of a mixed system at regional elections. Additionally, one of the goals of the meeting is to bring local election legislation in accord with the new federal law on the major guarantees of election rights of Russian citizens.
