"United Russia"'s objective is to become the ruling party

On Saturday at a meeting of the Central Political council of the "United Russia" party its leader Boris Gryzlov stated that the party's objective was to become the ruling party.

According to him, "it means that we intended to influence policy of all branches of power as well as to promote our representatives to key positions in legislative and executive central and regional power bodies." According to Gryzlov, "positions and real opportunities won by us in the political struggle gave us the right to act so". Gryzlov stressed that power itself was equally interested in our support." Boris Gryzlov indicated that the "United Russia" party possessed real opportunities to unite the society. He stressed that "the party's predestination was to present opportunities to implement civil initiatives. We proved our ability to win in the competition of systems, positions and ideas." Among party members are first deputy and two deputies of the chairman of the State Duma, three leaders of the largest deputies' unions, 14 heads of committees, a chief and deputy chief of the Duma's secretariat.
