In view of the hostage crisis in Moscow Russian President Vladimir Putin has canceled his intended visit to Germany and Portugal. According to the press office of the Russian government, Putin had planned a meeting with reelected German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder in Berlin as well as a one-day trip to Portugal for negotiations with Portuguese President Jorge Sampayo and Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barroso.
