Military servicemen's salary will be 25 percent higher than that of stateemployees, while they will be indexed together, Russian President VladimirPutin said at a meeting held in the Headquarters of the Siberian MilitaryDistrict. The Russian President was quoted as saying things were differentbefore, since civil state service "was always leaping ahead". The Russianleader specified beginning January 1, 2003 the salaries of military rankswere expected to increase, while after that, in October of next year, thesalaries of all military servicemen were expected to be indexed by 11percent. The Russian President pointed out next year the servicemen'ssalaries would thus be increased twice and the difference between the civilstate and military services would be sustained.
