Putin meets Tatar Congress delegates in Kazan

At his meeting in Kazan's Kremlin with the members of delegations to the 3rd World Tatar Congress, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that "it is necessary to protect good relations between peoples which have been developing for centuries against those who manipulate extremist and nationalist slogans to attain their self-seeking ends; try to sow mistrust, aggression, and intolerance." According to Vladimir Putin, it is "absolutely evident that the society itself ought to develop immunity against these infections." He said that "this work's success will largely depend on the responsibility of public organisations, respectable intellectuals, the clergy, and business." "The state is ready to maintain permanent dialogue with the aforesaid partners in the name of social and political stability," Putin said.

Prior to the meeting with the Congress's delegates, Vladimir Putin accompanied by Mintimer Shaimiyev, the President of Tatarstan (an autonomous constituent member of the Russian Federation) visited the Kremlin of Kazan. Shaimiyev told Putin about the reconstruction progress, the history of the Annunciation Cathedral and the recently built Kul Sharif mosque.
