Poland's President to meet with Bush in Washington

Poland's President Aleksander Kwasniewski will meet with U.S. President George W. Bush in Washington next month during the Polish leader's final official visit to the United States before his term expires, his office said Friday.

Bush will hold a luncheon in Kwasniewski's honor at the White House on Oct. 12, Kwasniewski's office said, without giving any other details.

Poland will go to the polls Oct. 9 to choose a successor to Kwasniewski, who is barred from seeking a third term. The winner will be sworn in Dec. 23.

Poland is a U.S. ally in Iraq. It sent ground troops to the 2003 invasion, and today has 1,500 troops training Iraqi police in an area south of Baghdad, the AP reports.
