Putin signs decree on appointment of public chamber members

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the appointment of Public Chamber members, the Kremlin press-service has said.

The federal law on Russia’s Public Chamber that took effect on July 1 stipulates that the chamber shall be formed through several phases.

First, the president names 42 citizens of Russia distinguished by special services to the nation. In the second phase these presidential representatives shall within two months select another 42 representatives from national non-governmental organizations – one from each.

And in the third, final phase the 84 members of the chamber will have one month to pick out another 42 representatives from regional and inter-regional associations, Itar-Tass reports.

The Public Chamber will consist of 126 members (citizens of Russia aged over 18) representing national regional and inter-regional non-governmental organizations and associations of non-commercial organizations.
