Yasushi Takagi and colleagues at Kyoto University generated neurons from &to=http://english.pravda.ru/society/2002/12/31/41563.html' target=_blank>monkey embryos and transplanted them into the brain of monkeys. Nowadays more research is needed to determine if the treatment is safe and effective.
"While the observations are encouraging, the reported number of surviving DA neurons was very low," said J. William Langston from the Parkinson's Institute, California, in an accompanying commentary.
