Former President &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2001/02/19/2585.html ' target=_blank>Bill Clinton, who was overweight as a teenager and struggled with his weight throughout his presidency, announced yesterday that he and the American Heart Association were creating programs to reverse the trend toward increasing &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2002/08/22/35077.html ' target=_blank>obesity among children.

In a presentation at Public School 128 in Manhattan, Mr. Clinton told students that at age 15, he stood 5 feet 91/2 inches and weighed 210 pounds. (As a presidential candidate and president, Mr. Clinton's weight ranged from a high of 226 in 1991 to a low of 196 in 1997.)

The school, which has a program to encourage healthier lifestyles, is a few hundred yards from NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia hospital, where Mr. Clinton underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery last September. In March, Mr. Clinton underwent a second chest operation for a complication of the surgery, reports the New York Times.

According to Washington Post, at a school in Harlem, two men from Arkansas who know a thing or two about dieting declared war on childhood obesity, which they said could doom youngsters to heart disease, diabetes and shortened life spans.
