Bolshoi Theatre opens new season

The Bolshoi Theatre opens its new season with Modest Mussorgsky's opera "Khovanshchina" on Thursday. As Director General Anatoly Iksanov said at the company gathering there are six-seven premieres scheduled for this season in the Bolshoi.

This year one of the Russian and world's best ballet stars Svetlana Zakharova joined the ballet company of the Bolshoi. In addition, the ballet company got 15 new dancers, the orchestra - 27 new musicians and the choir - 10 new singers. Since January 1 the famous choreographer and dancer Aleksei Ratmansky will become the art director of the Theatre.

According to Iksanov, this year the theatre will adhere to the former principle of its own and joint productions. Performances will be staged both on the main and new stages, the general director said.
