New exhibition in Amsterdam displays paintings by Vincent van Gogh and other 19th century artists

The Van Gogh Museum opened a new exhibition Tuesday, exploring people's changing view of animals during the period when Charles Darwin published his theory of evolution. On cue for World Animal Week, "Fierce Friends" displays paintings by Vincent van Gogh and other 19th century artists William Hogarth, James Audubon and William Turner, the AP reports. The works chart themes such as the advance of science and alienation of people from the wild, and the beginnings of the animal rights movement. Created in collaboration with Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Art, the exhibition will move in March to Pennsylvania _ the battleground for whether "Intelligent Design" may be taught as an alternative to Evolution in American state schools.
