Winners of Chilean music contest to visit Russia

Two young Chilean musicians, the winners of the nationwide contest "Chile-Russia Music Bridge" held under the patronage of Chilean first lady Luisa Duran will visit Russia.

On September 5 they left for a two-week trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg together with their teacher, pianist Yelena Shcherbakova.

Tamara Gusman and Felipe Ortez will visit Russia as part of the state programme of support for young talents. They will give solo concerts at piano faculties of the Moscow and St. Petersburg conservatories.

The young musicians will participate in master-classes with outstanding Russian pianists-professors of the conservatories. The Culture Department of the Chilean Foreign Ministry pays for their trip to Russia.

Director of the music school of the Russian Science and Culture Centre in Santiago Yelena Shcherbakova also heads the piano department of the Talca University (Talca is the birthplace of both winners).

This is one of many schools supervised by Russian teachers who studied in the Moscow and St. Petersburg conservatories and now live in Chile.
