Israeli Gesher Theater visits Moscow for first time

The Israeli Gesher Theater starts its tour of Moscow on Thursday, October 9. The Moscow critics have already called the tour the biggest event of the theater season.

The Gesher Theater was founded in 1990 in Tel Aviv by Russian immigrants. Among them is producer Yevgeny Ardye who once staged in Russia the sensational play "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" in the Mayakovsky Theater. It is still in the theater's repertoire. Another founder of the Gesher Theater is Leonid Kanevsky who is very popular in Russia thanks to the role he played in the series "Sledstvie Vedut Znatoki" (Experts Investigate the Case).

The Gesher Theater won many times the title of Israel's best theater. It was the first among the Israeli theaters to be invited to the prestigious international festival in Avignon.

From October 9 to 15 the Gesher Theater will give three performances: "Village" by Joshua Sobol, "The Slave," based on the novel by Nobel Prize winner Isaac Bashevis Singer (both in Hebrew with a simultaneous translation to Russian), and "The City," based on short stories by Isaac Babel (in Russian).
