2nd premiere of film 'Andrei Rublev'

In 1969 "Andrei Rublev", a film by unknown Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky, won a special prize at the international film festival in Cannes and made its creator famous. The films "Solaris", "Stalker", "The Sacrifice", "Mirror" and "Nostalgia" followed. They occupied merited place in the treasury of the world cinematography.

However, the technical condition of Tarkovsky's films has deteriorated and Russia's largest Mosfilm studios started their restoration.

"Andrei Rublev" was the first film to undergo restoration. It second premiere recently took place at the studios. The film's restoration took six months and cost $40,000. Two digital copies of "Andrei Rublev" have been made. Later there will be four copies. During the film presentation Mosfilm director general told journalists that all Andrei Tarkovsky's films would be restored in the near future.

Renowned cameraman and restorer Anatoly Petritsky, "Andrei Rublev's" photography director Andrei Yusov and young sound engineer Pavel Dariuli were involved in the restoration.

The film "Andrei Rublev" consisting of several stories deals with the life of the Russian famous icon painter of the 14th-15th centuries. It opens an eternal subject "Artist and Time". Andrei Tarkovsky shows Andrei Rublev as an epoch-making figure, a symbol of peace, concord and Russian breakthrough. In the 15th century Russia got rid of the Tatar-Mongolian yoke. It was facing famine and devastation. However, 100 years later it turned into a powerful country.
