It will allow calculating the costs for drugs, office visits, prescription, medical procedures, and other services. And the most important thing is that it will spur the dialogue between doctors and patients to decide the question of affordable quality healthcare.
The drawback of this program is that it may discourage patients to visit a doctor and also may delay care in attempts to find something suitable but less expensive.
It’s not the first case when an insurance company offers such information, but it’s a nice example of efficient work with information currently available.
But the problem is that it’s not profitable for some companies to share such information. Insurance companies can’t let competitors know the specific reimbursement rates they have negotiated with every provider.
