"Farewell Show" of Faberge collection to be held in New York

The so-called "Farewell Show" of the nine Easter eggs of the Faberge firm, made by the famous jeweler for the Russian Emperor's family, will be held in New York from February 12 to 15. The collection was recently purchased by Russian businessman Viktor Vekselberg.

As RIA Novosti was told at Sotheby's auction house, after the end of the exhibition the entry to which will be free these unique jewels, alongside the other jewels of the collection, will go to Russia.

Last week chairman of the Board of the Tyumen Oil Company (Siberia) Vekselberg bought, with Sotheby's mediation, the world's largest private collection of the Faberge firm's articles from the Forbes family of American media magnates. The value of the deal is not made public but the nine Emperor's Easter eggs and 180 other jewels of the collection were earlier estimated by experts at approximately 90 million dollars.

As Vakselberg said, in Russia he intends to make this unique collection accessible to the public at large.

Today there is information about 42 precious Easter eggs, made by famous jeweler Carl Faberge and his firm for the Russian Emperor's family between 1885 and 1916 and still existing in the world. Ten of them are now being kept in the Moscow Kremlin.
