Over the next five years, Mosfilm plans to build the largest sound stage in Europe, a film center and a multiscreen movie house. As Rosbalt learned November 14 from the press service of the Russian Ministry of Culture, these are elements of Mosfilm's development program approved earlier that day by a visiting ministerial group. The program looks to restoration of Mosfilm's 'golden treasury'-its archive of films produced by the studio from its founding. The nation's chief film studio must keep its unitary state status, the ministry noted. At present, Mosfilm contributes about USD 4 million a year to the national budget, while receiving no government subsidies.
