Festival of Japanese Culture in Russia Opens in St. Petersburg

A festival of Japanese culture in Russia opens on Saturday in St. Petersburg. Japanese Ambassador to Russia Issey Nomura said at a press conference on Friday at the International Press Center in St. Petersburg that the festival will continue over the course of the year and visit St. Petersburg, Moscow, and cities of the Far East.

As part of the festival, a concert of three-stringed instruments Tsugar Syamisen will take place on the stage of the Maly zal of the Shostakovich Philharmonic in St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg jazz musician David Goloshchokin will also participate in the concert. On April 21, Japanese musicians will conduct master of class games at various learning institutions on Japanese national instruments. On April 22, an exhibition 'Traditional Japanese Ceramics' will open in the Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg, and on April 26 the third annual festival 'Japanese Spring in St. Petersburg' will take place.

'The Festival of Japanese Culture in Russia - 2003' is organized by the Japanese Embassy in Russia.
