"Confidence And Security in Information Society" International Congress Opens in St. Petersburg

The International Congress "Confidence and Security in Information Society" has started in Saint Petersburg.

The Congress is organised by the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the CIS member countries.

The new conditions, concerning the provision of information security, are now of equal interest to the State and to its citizens, co-chairman of the Congress, Speaker of the Russian State Duma Gennady Seleznyov said in his speech of welcome.

There was a time when the most important issue was military security, however, the issue of information security of a person and society is no less important, the head of the Russian Parliament's lower chamber disclosed.

Seleznyov expressed hope that the Congress would assist in the development of new decisions, concerning the formation of a climate of confidence and security of a person, a country and the world community.

Deputies of CIS parliaments, chiefs of communication administrations of the CIS and Russian constituents, representatives of major international telecommunications unions and organisations, financial and crediting departments, leading research institutes, directors of major companies, working in the sphere of communications and information, are participating in the Congress to last two days.
