Thousands may lose their Internet access on July 9th

Hundreds of thousands of people may lose their access to the Internet beginning from July 9. An official spokesperson for the FBI told CNN that the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested six nationals of Estonia in November 2011. The detainees were suspected of Internet fraud. In addition, it is believed that the Estonians infected thousands of computers all over the world with DNS Changer virus, Vesti.ru reports.

The hackers used the virus to resend people to their websites to obtain more views for their commercial ads. The hackers have thus earned more than $14 million.

FBI agents assume that the hackers could infect more than 570,000 Microsoft Windows computers worldwide. The exact number of victims of cyber-criminals is hard to determine. However, it was said their portal received more than 568,000 hits on the day of their arrest. Most of those people were common PC users.

To cope with the problem, all owners of Windows computers can visit websites dcwg.org and dns-ok.us, where they can scan their PCs for the virus and find out how they can get rid of DNS Changer.
