French writer Guy Vassal to remove a blank spot in Russian and French history

French writer Guy Vassal is to complete his journey in Kamchatka peninsula, the Russian Far East, on Thursday.

Vassal is going to write a novel about a young French diplomat Barthelemy de Lesseps who travelled in 1788 from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Paris and who landed on the peninsula for delivering the diaries of La Perouse expedition to France. The French seafarer circumnavigated the globe in 1785-1788. The strait between Sakhalin (Russia) and Hokkaido (Japan) has been named after him.

De Lesseps descibed his journey across Russia in the book issued in 1790. The historical novel will be based on this rare book as well as on Vassal's impressions of his trip to Kamchatka areas which de Lesseps visited.

According to Vassal, "the journey by de Lesseps remains a blsnk spot in the history of Russia and France. That is why the appearance of the novel based on historical facts described in the work of art will become one more evidence of long-standing and strong relations between the two countries." The novel will be written in the genre of historic detective story.

Head of the Kamchatka Drama and Comedy theatre Valentin Zverovshchikov showed great interest in the creative work of Guy Vassal, and he plans to stage the writer's play about La Perouse in the theatre.

RIA Novosti renders to de Vassal information support.
