US scientists, engaged in the study of the atmosphere and ocean waters, have come to the conclusion that the mass suicide of dolphins on the American coast was caused by a morbillivirus.
According to the researchers, the unusual disease is very similar to measles, a human disease. After several months of studying and analyzing the animal tissue and blood, the biologists noted with regret that there was no vaccine against the virus.
According to preliminary forecasts, local outbreaks of the disease are epidemiological in nature and will last for six months.
Since the beginning of summer, more than 330 dolphins have beached themselves of the east coast of America. During 2012, about 110 dead mammals were found on the coast.
