EPA penalizes Dow Corning for clean-air violations

The Environmental Protection Agency reached an agreement with Dow Corning Corp. on alleged clean-air violations at two of its production processes in Michigan.

The EPA, an agency of the federal government of the United States charged with protecting human health and with safeguarding the natural environment, said the pact, which includes a $95,000 penalty, resolves EPA allegations that Dow Corning failed to meet several conditions that restrict emissions of volatile organic compounds and particulate matter in the manner required by its state operating permit and state regulations.

Volatile organic compounds contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone or smog.

Dow Corning is a multinational corporation headquartered in Midland , Michigan , USA. Dow Corning specializes in silicon and silicone-based technology, offering more than 7,000 products and services. Dow Corning is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning Inc.
