The heir to the British throne Prince Charles of Wales will make a Russian visit on July 13th-16th this year, the prince's press secretary reported on Thursday.
According to him, Prince Charles will visit St. Petersburg to attend a number of official events there. The prince will devote his visit to the city's 300th anniversary and the 450th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Great Britain.
The more detailed programme of the British prince's Russian visit will be made public later, the press secretary specified.
He recalled that the Prince of Wales had already visited St. Petersburg on May 16th-19th, 1994. Then Prince Charles met representatives of the city's business circles, visited the graves of Russian tsars, his remote relations, in the Peter and Paul Fortress and signed an agreement on the publication in Great Britain of a complete edition of Alexander Pushkin's works.
That was the first Russian visit by a high-ranking member of the British Royal family after the coronation of Nicholas II.
Prince Charles is in charge of a number of cultural projects in Russia, in particular, the programme of sponsoring the Mariinsky Theatre and the programme of exchanges in medicine and architecture, to name but a few.
