The Moscow Duma intends to support the initiative to create an international center of classic education in the capital. The matter was discussed at the session of the Duma's social policy committee on Monday.
The aim of the centre will be "to restore and develop at a modern level the education system that will be able to unite the most of educational methods efficiently used in Moscow and Russia," said the project's initiator Yuri Shichalin. This will be carried out on the basis of the European tradition of classic education that has been incessantly developing for 25 centuries.
Shichalin described classic education as "universal", based on extensive studies of Ancient Greek, Latin, main European languages, world and Russian history, including history of arts, as well as on a higher teaching level of mathematical subjects, natural sciences and philosophy.
