Russia's Cryptographic Academy turns 10

The Cryptographic Academy of the Russian Federation is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It was set up by order of the Russian president on June 5th, 1992 to "conduct fundamental and applied research in the field of contemporary means of protecting information and to solve topical tasks dealing with radio-electronic reconnaissance." "The Cryptographic Academy is the country's one and only scientific establishment of this kind," said a source in the Academy. "It unites 29 full members and 30 corresponding members, all of them outstanding Russian scientists, who founded new trends in cryptography and associated sciences." The Academy is headed by Prof. Nikolai Andreyev, D.Sc. /Tech./, a founder of one of the latest trends in Russian cryptography and the first President of the Russian Cryptographic Academy in 1992-1998.

Assisted by the Federal Agency of Government Communications and Information and by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Cryptographic Academy unites the efforts of leading scientists from different state-owned organizations that design and create information protection means, information resources, telecommunications and means of special communication, and advanced protected information technologies.

Today, according to the source, the Academy does research in the field of scientific and technical problems related to information security and protection of information resources in telecommunication systems used by the state authorities and the administrative sphere.
