New Floating Station "North Pole-29" to Be Set Up in the Arctic

Russian scientists are to resume their research in the Arctic. In mid-April, they will land in one of the ice floes in the Arctic Ocean, which where a new floating station, North Pole-29, will be set up. Head of the Russian Transport Ministry's Krasnoyarsk interregional air transport department, Viktor Osipov, charged to supervise all operations to choose an ice-floe and deliver scientists to it, said this Thursday. The station will be operating for a year, he said.

Viktor Osipov pointed out that Krasnoyarsk aviators had ensured work of almost all the previous floating stations. However, over ten years ago this work was interrupted, he stated.

March is expected to see the beginning of flights aimed at choosing an ice floe, while the opening of the new station is scheduled to take place on April 15.
