Moscow floats antique weaponry museum idea

The Russian Ministry of Defence and the national state company Rosoboroneksport are implementing a programme to popularise Russian weaponry. As part of this concept, foreign museums are being offered the chance to exhibit historical pieces made over the years in Russia.

RIA Novosti learnt from Rosoboroneksport that a museum exposition would soon open in Hamburg featuring a Soviet 641B submarine sold to Germany after completing its service-life. Items of Russian historical weaponry enjoys great demand from museums in Great Britain, the Netherlands, Finland, the USA and other countries. Practice has shown that the greatest interest lies in those pieces from WWI and WWII, as well as the immediate post-war years. Russian weapons, uniforms and other military items are not only bought by museums, but also associations of arms' lovers and private collectors.

Many unique examples of military hardware and weapons dating from the first half of the XX century are stored in good condition in the Defence Ministry's armouries. Many of these items were unequalled in the world in terms of their combat capabilities, the simplicity of their construction, use and technological production.
