A man suspected of killing at least 10 people over more than 20 years has been arrested in the US city of Los Angeles.
Lonnie Franklin Jr, 57, is alleged to be the serial killer called the "Grim Sleeper" by California's media. Most of the victims were prostitutes in Los Angeles who were sexually assaulted and then shot between 1985 and 2007.
The attacker was given his nickname because he apparently stopped killing from 1988 to 2002. Detectives have spent years investigating the killings, BBC News reports.
Los Angeles Police Department detectives made a background scan of the family tree of the prisoner who was closely related to the Grim Sleeper. The prisoner’s father appeared. LAPD officials suspected the father to be the Grim Sleeper.
A team of undercover agent followed him. Then, they retrieved a discarded slice of pizza to test the DNA. On July 6, the DNA on the pizza matched the DNA of the Grim Sleeper. The suspect was arrested on July 7 in his LA home. He was Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57, Dots Period reports.
