People Choose Vampires

Nominees for the People's Choice Awards are announced: people prefer vampires.

"Twilight" and "True Blood" were among the top nominees announced Tuesday. Fans cast more than 18 million votes online to select the nominee slate and will also choose the winners in 35 categories.

"Twilight" is up for favorite on-screen team for its trio of stars: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Stewart and Pattinson were also nominated individually for favorite movie actress and actor, and Lautner is up for breakout movie actor.

"True Blood" was nominated for favorite TV obsession and sci-fi/fantasy TV show, plus star Anna Paquin earned a nod for TV drama actress, The Associated Press reports.

News agencies also report, the "Twilight" movie series, which enters its second installment on November 20 with the "New Moon" sequel, also won a nod for best franchise among its leading seven nominations.

Voted on by the public, the awards will be given out on January 6, in one of the earliest shows in Hollywood's awards season.

Last year, the People's Choice Awards nominees were announced 11 days before "Twilight" was released. The movie went on to make nearly $384 million at worldwide box offices, becoming one of 2008's biggest surprise hits.

Winners at the People's Choice Awards will be chosen by a public online vote at the websites peopleschoice.com and myspace.com/peopleschoiceawards. Voting for most categories ends on December 8, ABC News reports.

It was also reported, smash horror flick "Paranormal Activity" also received a nomination and will go up against "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail," "(500) Days of Summer" and the highly anticipated sci-fi film "District 9" in the independent movie category.

On the music side, nominations are still rolling in for Eminem and Taylor Swift, who are both up for a number of American Music Awards. The Detroit rapper earned two People's Choice nominations for male artist and hip-hop artist, while Swift is nominated for People's Choice country artist, pop artist and female artist, CNN reports.
