The world's oldest female prisoner died in the prison of the city of Lucknow, in northern India at age 108, local media reported on Tuesday.

The woman, named Ram Kali, died as a result of a disease caused by old age. The prisoner was serving her sentence in the administrative center of the state of Uttar Pradesh for complicity in a murder. In view of the gravity of the offense, Ram Kali was not subject to amnesty.

Earlier, an Indian court released 108-year-old inmate Bridge Bihari Pandey out of jail in the same state for humanitarian grounds. Prior to his imprisonment, the inmate served as a priest.
